What social, political, and power interests are behind the creation of the standardised unit of the metre? And why are we still obeying them centuries later?
The pathological need to measure and so tame the world is explored in this near-hallucinogenic essay, using reconstruction and a 3D animated model. It brings the viewer on a journey from prehistory, over the French revolution to today’s standardisation of measuring. It asks, do the units, through which we understand the world, make sense? And who do they serve?
