The Sound Is Innocent

Sound is ScienceFilm
‘When does sound become music?’ The bourgeoisie of the 19th century paid no mind to that question in concert halls. However, the advent of electronic and experimental music has changed much. Are there any limits to creating music?
Johana Ožvold’s self-reflective film itself is somewhat experimental. A formally engaging essay on the relationship between artist, society, and instrument, it takes the audience on a tour of the abstract spaces of recording studios. Sounds and voices emanate from sources located outside the frame, and traditional cuts are often replaced by split-screen montage not dissimilar to Godard’s Numéro deux.
