The legendary series Futurama by Matt Groening and David Cohen is one of the most defining among animated sci-fi shows. The show celebrates the 20th anniversary of its pilot, Spacepilot 3000, which aired on March 28, 1999. Futurama is named after Ford’s Pavilion at the 1939 New York State Fair where Americans gazed in awe at what our planet would look like in 20 years. Groening and Cohen take us, via the persona of Philip J. Fry, through an expedition to the third millennium. Through its surreal and sarcastic humor and characteristic animation, the show popularized science and warned against environmental issues with a far greater reach than most other documentary films. Everybody loves Hypnotoad.
