This documentary is part of a 16-episode programme with the original title Kashef el-Asrar, literally The Secret’s Revealer. The episode 5,000 Years of Navigation tells us the story of boat evolution in Ancient Egypt. For millennia the Nile has been the main way of communication in Egypt. There is vast evidence of the construction of boats that proves the great technical skills acquired by the Egyptians in the course of the centuries. The Czech archaeological mission in Abusir recently uncovered a 3rd Dynasty solar boat among officials’ tombs. Although only pharaohs were entitled to be buried with vessels, the owner of this huge boat was not a king. How was a non-royal allowed to have as part of his funerary equipment such a huge, beautifully built, and expensive boat?
