Every sports champion dreams about a formidable opponent. It’s a chance to further develop one’s skills and pit your strength against an unknown threat. But what if your opponent is not a human that you can look in the eye, shake their hand and watch their responses? Lee Sedol, multiple world champion and currently best Go player, faced this challenge in March 2016. He competed with the AlphaGo computer invented by Google DeepMind in five matches. What was supposed to be a celebration of human intuition, unrivalled by machines, turned into an alarming testimony of the potential power and creativity of AI. As this documentary emotionally portrays, the Sedol vs AlphaGo match soon become a humans vs machines match.
