Jiří Janák: Tajemství mumifikace a mumie ve filmu / Jiří Janák: The Secrets of Mummification and Mummies on Screen
|Category||culture and art history|
The embalming ritual and mummification process belong to the most important secrets of Ancient Egyptian civilization, which sparked interest, awe and sometimes even fear in the eyes of foreigners and conquerors already at that time. Mummification and mummies (along with pyramids) have gradually become typical for Egypt. We thus encounter this icon of Egyptian culture in almost all books and films that merely touch upon the theme of Ancient Egypt. The lecture The Secrets of Mummification and Mummies on Screen will present religious reasons for embalming, a unique discovery from Abusir enabling a very detailed reconstruction of the mummification process, as well as the degree of reliability of the mummies’ portrayal in film.
