Jiří Klůc: Hrdinové východní fronty jako oběti komunistického režimu / Jiří Klůc: Heroes of Eastern front as victims of communist regime
|Category||history politics society|
These heroes fought during World War II on the Eastern Front welcomed home by the Communist regime with imprisonment and execution. These soldiers are forgotten today as they did not fight for the West. Czech General Josef Buršík originated from the Chodsko region. In 1943 he was awarded the Gold Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union as the first who managed to fight his way into the centre of Kiev. In 1949 he was accused of treason and sentenced to 14 years in prison after appealing against the original 10-year sentence. Buršík managed to escape prison and emigrate abroad (losing contact with his family) where he helped Czechoslovak refugees. He is just one of many we have forgotten.
