Východní vzpomínky / Eastern Memories

The Finnish linguist Gustaf Ramstedt was once given the opportunity to go to the remote eastern country of Mongolia to study the local languages and their link to Ugric languages. This Eastern journey fundamentally influenced his future. A narrative story, based on his own diary notes, reveals the life of a lively world traveler who, in addition to his scientific career, also became a Finnish diplomat and ambassador in several Asian countries, where he worked for many years at times of turbulent historical events. The filmmakers portray his story, however, as a travelogue. With playfulness and photographic precision, the Asian world is portrayed in such a way that the notion of time differences can vanish at any time.
