CZECH & SLOVAK COMPETITION
“The Czech & Slovak Competition reflects the diversity of the film medium in the context of the contemporary approach to documentary filmmaking. This year’s selection introduces traditional AFO topics, concerned with the issue of addictive substances and the research of historical phenomena, as well as a critical analysis in the areas of justice, true crime and motives connecting social and natural environments. Generationally diverse filmmakers contribute to the complexity of popularising scientific insight through their work and debuts. The documentary film here is in a position of both an experiment and an observer, reacting to events in Czech and Slovak society,” says festival programmer Karolina Matějková about the section.

SHORT FILM COMPETITION
“The Short Film Competition offers insight into various areas of research and visual expression in five thematic blocks, where everyone will find something to like. In the very best of international and also Czech and Slovak work, he audience will take part in observing the universe as well as microscopic organisms, they will visit animals in both gardens and computers, discover no longer existing islands, walk across glaciers and face the impact of climate change. IMMERSIVE MEDIA COMPETITION
“The new competition section reflects the growing importance of immersive technologies. We will connect art, science and social interaction. The visitors will delve into virtual worlds with the help of headsets and will become, for instance, a part of a collective experiment in genetics or an individual simulation of feelings of a person suffering from a specific illness,” explains festival programmer Dominik Vontor.
