Programme Tips #3: What treasures does the third day of festival offer?

24. 4. 2025

As the 60th AFO reaches its halfway point, Thursday will breathe new life into Olomouc through a unique combination of exhibitions, concerts, talks, and film screenings. What exactly is prepared for you on day three?

One of the defining charms of the Academia Film Olomouc festival is its intimate connection with the city where it takes place. This year’s programme offers a number of exhibitions worth your attention. From Thursday to Sunday, Gallery XY hosts File Explorer: I Like the Pictures in Your Living Room, an exhibition exploring the increasingly familiar format of the digital desktop – a new way of perceiving, spending time, and having an insight into personal lives. Videoforum 2025, already in full swing, takes place in the Radecký Hall of the Regional Museum. The exhibition even revisits the now-defunct tradition of AVO (Academia Video Olomouc), offering a nostalgic look back through VHS and DVD media.

To enjoy another part of the programme, you can head over to the Regional Museum where the film The Body in My Head is screened at 17:30. This Czech Television documentary sheds light on the issue of body shaming in today’s society. For the speakers, the film also presents a form of therapy and a platform to share their stories. The topic will also be discussed during the live podcast Heroine: Who Owns Our Bodies at 20:30 in Central. Sociologist Markéta Šetinová will present a lecture Modern Love – Navigating Relationships in Today’s Society, exploring variations of love in today’s society. If you are interested in this topic, Central at 18:00 is the place to be.

From the film Animals: Drugs, Sex and Fun

Looking back into the archives, the Czech Television Film Hall at 18:30 presents The Road Leads to Tibet, a documentary by the legendary director Vladimír Sís, who undertook a demanding and at its time unique journey. The audio-visual testimony of the adventure still holds its magic and value to this day. If you’re after something more current, the Theatre Hall at 19:30 screens Animals: Drugs, Sex and Fun, a science documentary that challenges our understanding of animals as purely instinct-driven beings and explores how they seem to consciously enjoy their lives.

And of course, no AFO evening is complete without the music programme on the Full Moon Stage. Starting at 20:00, Slovak multi-genre artist Erika Rein will bring her blend of pop, experimental soundscapes, and more, followed at 21:00 by Estonian artist Mart Avi, whose distinctive take on alternative pop will close out the night.
