Exhibitions

This year’s AFO exhibition programme reimagines non-competition film sections as a series of exhibitions – analyzing current audiovisual trends while offering a nostalgic look back at archival gems from AFO’s history.

As we spend more of our lives in front of screens, our ways of perceiving reality and telling stories evolve. Film as a medium is expanding into new formats that reflect our digital habits – one example being the rise of desktop documentaries. The exhibition File Explorer: I Like the Pictures in Your Living Room bridges two venues – Gallery XY and Vitrína Deniska – showcasing audiovisual works that use computer screen-capturing techniques in office-like settings. In contrast to these digital narratives of the future, AFO Videoforum at the Regional Museum in Olomouc offers a retrospective experience. Using period technology and the original format of Academia Video Olomouc projection booths, we bring archival films from the 80s, 90s, and 00s back to life – some that were considered average in their time, others far ahead of it.
