If there’s a word that describes the programme of Academia Film Olomouc, it’s the very one in the title – diversity. What colourful formats can the audience experience at the festival?
The word “experience” is key for an entire section of the festival – the Competition of Immersive Media. In the new festival space, Sedmička Hall, the audience can dive into a variety of interactive media. With performative experiments, projects, virtual realities or augmented reality enriched by installations, AFO has curated a unique immersive programme bound to captivate its visitors.
While this section is available throughout the festival, other programme blocks are available only on the second festival day. One example is the short archival film Before It’s Too Late, followed by a panel discussion with experts on the difficult topic of cancer and its treatment. Don’t miss it at 16:00 in Regional Museum. Or you can stop by Corpus Christi Chapel at 17:00, where the screening of the short film Stone Axe Path will surely spark a lively debate given the number of delegates including, among others, the director of the film, Tomáš Kratochvíl. The film is part of the Czech & Slovak Competition, as is the film The Kratom Collectors. This medium-length film about a substance considered a cure for some and a drug by others, will also be accompanied by a filmmaker delegation led by the director Libor Cinegr. See it at 18:00 in Regional Museum.
If someone would prefer a lecture in the flood of films, the block by Craig L. Anderson at 18:30 in Central MUO is certainly a perfect choice. The specialist on human emotion will focus on the theme of wonder in his lecture The Science of Wonder. What evokes this feeling and can it be used, for example, in medical contexts? A fascinating screening awaits the audience at 19:00 in Theatre Hall at Konvikt, where Spider House I will be shown. This scientific documentary with elements of reality show explores the behaviour of different species of spiders in an abandoned Victorian house. Spiders can be followed up with the performance called V E K T R O S K O P: 4.5~24h. It starts at 21:30 and works with a sped-up narration of the history of our planet’s evolution through spoken word and audio-visual
sensations.
And next to the immersive media, lectures, debates, performances, and films there is also the music programme! The electronic duo SELENoLAr will take the Full Moon Stage at 20:00, followed by a comet of the Slovak electro scene Kodiki in a similar genre feel, at 21:00.
Follow our social sites and explore our web to find out more about the programme. We will supply you with science dose by dose until the climax comes – AFO60.
