Safety

We want all festival visitors to feel safe and comfortable. Creating a safe environment is a great challenge, and we need your help to maintain it. That’s why we’ve prepared rules and guidelines that every festival participant should follow.

Entry to the venue

Access to festival programme events is only permitted with a valid accreditation – please always present it at the entrance.

After 10 PM, you can only enter the Festival Centre (Konvikt) with your accreditation card.

Did you buy a ticket for a concert as part of Music is Science? You still need to have accreditation for the whole festival.

Respect

Please behave kindly and respectfully towards everyone around you – regardless of background, age, gender, sexual orientation or religion.

We do not tolerate any expressions of hatred, racism, xenophobia or homophobia, nor aggression, threats or violence – especially towards any minority groups.

If you witness any violent or inappropriate behaviour, please contact the organisers.

Please keep loud conversations outside the screening room. Inside, we kindly ask you to silence and put away your phone and to be considerate of those around you – whether this concerns noise or strong scents.

Please follow the instructions of staff, particularly regarding the capacities of individual venues.

You can find capacities for each venue at www.afo.cz/en/locations/.

Consent

NO MEANS NO.

Please keep this in mind when interacting with friends and strangers alike. Respect the boundaries and limits of others.

Consent can be expressed verbally or non-verbally. It must be positive, voluntary, active and given consciously. If you’re not sure, it’s always better to ask.

Intoxication affects a person’s ability to give consent. If someone is heavily intoxicated, they are not able to give consent.

Consent given under pressure is not consent. Silence or lack of response is not consent.

Consent can be withdrawn at any time.

Harm reduction and safety

Take care of yourself, your friends, and the visitors around you. Collective care is key. If you see that someone is unwell or behaving unusually, contact the organisers.

You will find our medical team in the Festival Centre (atrium) throughout the entire festival. They can help with first aid, provide a quick consultation, and can call an ambulance or the main organisers if needed.

In the evening hours, you’ll find our harm reduction corner by the music tent – a place where you can step away if you’re feeling unwell, and where you’ll find vitamins, earplugs and other supplies.

During the evening and night hours, our night crew moves through the festival and is identified by light markers. You can approach them at any time – they’ll be happy to help.

A professional security service also operates at the festival and has the right to check your bag upon entry.

The air in a venue can sometimes get stuffy. If you start feeling faint, please leave the room.

Each venue has its own venue manager, whom you can approach at any time.

Keep an eye on your drink and don’t leave it unattended.

The festival can be demanding – please remember to stay hydrated and keep your energy up.

Where can you find help?

Throughout the festival, you can approach any member of the team. At each venue, you’ll find a venue manager, or you can go to the bar or the accreditation desk.

During the evening, night production staff move through the venue and are identified by coloured lights on their wrists. Security can be found at the entrance.

See something that shouldn’t be happening?

The 5D Rule is designed to help bystanders respond to harassment safely and effectively, without putting themselves at unnecessary risk.

Decide which “D” to use based on how you feel in the moment and which approach makes sense to you. Always think about your own safety.

DISTRACT – Try to distract the victim and draw the attention away from the aggressor. A simple question works: “Do you know where the nearest toilets are?” or more directly: “Hey, shall we get out of here?”

DELEGATE – Ask someone else for help. Bring in a friend or approach one of the organisers.

DOCUMENT – If it’s safe to do so, you can film, photograph or write down what is happening. Only share the recording with the victim’s consent if they wish to take the matter further.

DELAY – Wait until the incident is over, then check in with the victim to ask how they’re feeling and what they need.

DIRECT – This is usually our first instinct. “Stop” or “Cut it out” works best when you name the specific behaviour. If you don’t feel up to it, feel free to try one of the other D’s.

Other

Photography is welcome – however, please only photograph people who have given their consent. Do not photograph strangers without their knowledge.

Distributing advertising or promotional materials within the venue is not welcome. Please do not damage our spaces or equipment (no graffiti, no stickers) – otherwise you will be required to cover the cost of repairs.

The following is not permitted at the festival: professional film cameras, photo cameras, drones and other professional recording equipment; laser pointers; narcotic, addictive and psychotropic substances prohibited under Czech law; bulky luggage and items causing excessive noise; pyrotechnics and explosive, flammable, combustible, corrosive or otherwise hazardous substances; any weapons (firearms, gas, stabbing and cutting weapons, knives, etc.); glass containers including bottles, cans and other sharp objects.

Thirsty? Buy a drink at the festival bar – leave your own supplies at home. (Soft drinks, beer and cocktails will be available.) Please transfer any drinks in glass or cans into a returnable cup, which we will lend you, before entering a venue.

By creating your accreditation, you agree to the visitor regulations. You can find the full text here: www.afo.cz/navstevni-rad-afo/
