The 60th anniversary edition of AFO has now entered the second half, which means the audience still has an avalanche of excellent things coming their way. What is in store for Friday – a day that’s traditionally packed and anything but a calm before a stormy weekend?
Let’s start right away with a morning workshop. A session titled Moving in the Open Terrain: AFO Film Archive in the Editing Room starts at 10:00 in Fort Science. The participants will have an opportunity to explore the extensive AFO archive and try their hand at editing its materials. Those intrigued by the project Turbulence: Jamais Vu from the Immersive Competition will be interested in the lecture Designing Embodied Realities in XR presented by its creator Ben Joseph Andrews and co-creator Emma Roberts. The masterclass will show the audience the creative process which will also include an interactive performance. All will take place in the Corpus Christi Chapel at 13:00.
The children’s programme AFO Junior is once again part of this year programme. It includes the workshop The World from a Robot’s Perspective. Taťána Rubášová and Jindřich Janíček created the William and Meriwether story trilogy, and participants can also look forward to creative writing and art related to these stories at the Children’s Bookstore Zlatá velryba at 15:00. The short film Wandering in the Woods will be screened in the Regional Museum, followed by a lecture by Oxford professor Richard White. Director Rob Key will also be present.
As part of the Industry 4Science programme, producer Sarah Qari will give a lecture in the Corpus Christi Chapel at 19:00. The Beating Heart of Science Storytelling will provide an insight into the making of a scientific podcast and ways in which science becomes a narrative shared with the audience. A day full of lectures and workshops can then be nicely wrapped up by an audio-visual experience with The Trilogy of Myths by Josef Císařovský. It will be possible to dive into this depiction of the greatest national myths and legends, as presented by Císařovský in this important piece of 1990s documentary film.
In the evening the Full Moon Stage will come alive with the Music Is Science programme. Slovak artist DASA, who travelled through many a legendary global club, will take the stage at 21:00. She will be followed at 22:00 by guitar-driven pop of the Prague-based duo Dukla who released a new album last year. Friday is packed with amazing events and the choice is entirely yours!
