Ben Joseph Andrews a Emma Roberts

Creators of project Turbulence: Jamais Vu

Ben Joseph Andrews and Emma Roberts are a new media artist duo whose work combines immersive and embodied technologies in collective installations that explore awe, perception and the more-than-human world. Creating through a crip-tech lens, their work brings disabled perspectives to the fore to explore and critique the edges of ‘seamless’ immersion, with a particular interest in movement and the liminal space between physical and virtual.

Their projects, including IDFA-winning Turbulence: Jamais Vu (2023) and Australian Directors’ Guild-winning durational VR installation Gondwana (2022), has exhibited at Sundance New Frontier, Venice Film Festival, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Undershed, Adelaide Festival, MIT Open Documentary Lab, Science Gallery Atlanta and SxSW Austin, among others.

They are fellows of the Venice Biennale Cinema College, Frame Documentary Lab, Screen Producers Australia’s Ones to Watch program and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image Accelerator, and have spoken for NYU Tisch School of Art, MIT Open Doc Lab, Electric Dreams and the Australian International Documentary Conference.
