Pavla Bauerová

Scientific researcher of historical building materials, mosaic techniques and popularizer of science.

She studied geology at Charles University and materials engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague. She works at the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the CAS, where she researches historical building materials, especially microscopy of old mortars. Her passion is mosaics and she particularly enjoys studying 19th and 20th century mortar beds of mosaics. In addition to research, she is also involved in popularizing science. At the Faculty of Science, she is involved in the Detektiv nanosvěta a Nebuď lama programs, focused on electron microscopy and aimed at high school students. Her fascination with images of micro- and nanostructures led her to organize two exhibitions oscillating between science and art – Foton, elektron (2023) and Obraz obrazu (2024).
