Science in Pop Culture

Let yourself be drawn into the world of science through fictional films! How do we unfold the stories of scientists? Explore film and TV conventions and discover surprising parallels between different projects.

This year, the Science in Pop Culture section focuses on a fundamental issue about popularising science – how we describe the lives of scientific personalities. We will take a look at what conventions film and television works follow, whether they are changing and whether feature films work differently with the stories of scientists than, for example, animated films. This section will uncover surprising similarities between projects that otherwise differ from each other in footage, time or country of origin. During the compilation of the section, the impact of war conflicts on scientific progress and the loss of control over one’s invention emerged as a secondary theme. In the non-film programme, we will address biographical film as a genre and host a lecture on Oppenheimer.
