Festival Tips #5: Let the AFO Weekend Begin! What’s in Store for You?

27. 4. 2024

At AFO, we believe in popularising science even over the weekend. Our Saturday lineup is a testament to this, offering a diverse programme from morning to night. You might find yourself in a difficult dilemma of what to choose. But worry not, our last festival tips are here to guide you through this unique and wholesome journey.

Are you a fan of mushrooms or video games? If so, our morning programme is tailor-made for you. Tomáš Větrovský’s lecture entitled Mushrooms in Video Games – An Interactive Exploration with the Game Mycosis at 10:30 a.m. at the Theatre Hall takes you to explore the representation of mushrooms in video games. Do you think The Future Ahead Will Be Weird AF? Embark on the ultimate AI CoreCore experience from 12 p.m. at the Film Hall. It’s a journey into the weird and wonderful world of AI!

If you’re looking to expand your horizons beyond films and lectures, join Lenka Hámošová and her workshop Beyond Words: Creating the Incommunicable with Artificial Intelligence at 1 p.m. at the Auditorium Maximum. This workshop is a valuable opportunity to learn how to work constructively with AI, a skill that will be crucial in the future. And speaking of AI, don’t miss the new progressive project by Petr Salaba Scalespace at 2 p.m. at the Metropol Cinema. This film, created entirely by artificial intelligence, is an innovative journey through time that will challenge your ideas about our planet’s history.

You can follow up on the morning exploration of mushrooms in video games at 4:30 p.m. at the Metropol Cinema. Listen to mycologist Peter McCoy’s lecture on Human-Fungal Relations Throughout History. How do fungi and humans work together, and how can each of us engage in that relationship and bring a bit of mycology into our lives? The evening program at the Metropol Cinema promises festivity, featuring the winning film from the International Competition at 9 p.m. Who will be this year’s lucky winner?

As the evening sets in, get ready for the Music Is Science concerts! Starting at 9 p.m., we have five amazing performances lined up for you. The night kicks off with Martyyna and her new eerie album, culminating in the DJ set of Surrealita and Makropulos – the curatorial duo behind each day’s lineups, ensuring an electrifying conclusion to the AFO music programme. What better way to end the festival’s penultimate day than on the dance floor?
