Last and First Men

První a poslední celovečerní film skladatele a režiséra Jóhanna Jóhannssona je epickou hypnotickou básní. Tilda Swinton v ní představuje hlas lidské rasy, která se v daleké budoucnosti ocitá na pokraji zániku.
Žánrově ambivalentní film odehrávající se mimo čas a prostor byl v kinech uveden dva roky po Jóhannssonově smrti. Chvílemi uklidňující a chvílemi zneklidňující zážitek je připraven pro všechny, kteří jsou ochotni nechat se unášet hlasem Swinton a záběry na monumenty ze zemí bývalé Jugoslávie. Ty byly postaveny jako připomínka 2. světové války a jejich futuristický až mimozemský vzhled byl záměrný. Hudba a hra světla a stínů už jen posilují úvahu o tom, co to znamená a bude znamenat být člověkem.

The first and last feature film of the composer and director Jóhann Jóhannsson is an epic hypnotic poem. Set in the distant future, Tilda Swinton is the voice of the human race on the verge of extinction.
This genre-ambivalent film set outside of time and space was released in cinemas two years after Jóhannsson’s death. Partly soothing and partly unsettling, the experience is ready for those willing to be carried away by Swinton’s voice and the footage of monuments from the countries of the former Yugoslavia. These were built as a reminder of World War II, and their futuristic, almost alien appearance was intentional. The music and the play of light and shadow only strengthen the reflection on what it means and will mean to be human.
