Sonya Pemberton

Australian producer, science documentary filmmaker, and Emmy Award winner.

 At the closing ceremony, she will receive the Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Popularisation of Science. Sonya Pemberton is one of Australia’s leading factual television producers and her specialisation is science. She is a 2012 Emmy Award winner and a record-breaking five-time winner of the prestigious Eureka Award for Science Journalism. 

Sonya has written, directed, and produced over 60 hours of documentary, and her films have won over 70 international awards. She is also the executive producer of many award-winning factual programs including Uranium and Carbon: The Unauthorized Biography. As a writer and director, her critically acclaimed and multi-award winning films include the feature-length special on vaccination Jabbed (2013). In 2021, Sonya directed the feature-length film Cracking COVID and co-produced the feature-length documentary Carbon: The Unauthorised Biography.
