Music is Science

Get carried away by music at Music is Science! It will once again cross genre boundaries and connect art and science. With low-frequency bass, synthesisers and precise rhythms, it will put you in a euphoric trance through listening and dancing.

The entire music programme takes place in the Konvikt’s courtyard garden (Univerzitní 3) under a roofed stage. Concerts and live sets are open to holders of a paid Music is Science accreditation. Afterparties with DJs are free for anyone with a regular accreditation. Access to Konvikt (Univerzitní 3) after 10 pm is in general only available with accreditation.

A bold name on the Berlin electronic scene, Acidfinky is a member of the BLVSH feminist collective and represents the Twisting Knobs Records label. Her imaginative work is intertwined with a strong bass line and broken beats as she floats across genres. Her Czech premiere takes on the unconventional form of a live set.

 

Noise, masochism of joy, joy as rebellion, noise! This Olomouc crew started out at SF Mini, the local DIY collective hangout. They bring a thunderous blend of techno, punk, and post-disco.

 

Escaping the mundane with dance floor euphoria. That is the vibe of the American producer, currently making waves in the Czech indie dance scene.

Experimental rap in the guise of heavy industrial beats by a pair of master musicians Jiří Machů (Killiekrankie) and Mikuláš Hamerla (Sekvoye). They are all about Dadaist rap without profanity—always keeping it real.

 

These Czech shoegaze experts from Rakovník are bringing their brand new album Unravel to Olomouc to launch their spring tour. They keep the sound and mood of their new record secret. But one thing is for sure, it is going to be lit!

 

Her EP AWAKEN was ranked by Wire magazine among the best Czech recordings of 2020. Martyyna’s debut album Written in the Scars hits you with dreamy synths and heavily tuned atmospheric vocals.

 

The electronic project by Ladislav Zensor (Exhausted Modern) draws on the influences of the contemporary post(club) scene and experimental styles, creating a unique cross-genre and organic sound. He is at AFO with his live set.

 

DJ SETY

Straight out of the rainy northern forests, producer and DJ Kletis brings his killer mix of genres. Friday’s music lineup is on fire with his professorial blend of techno and bass beats.

 

The official comeback of the uncrowned king of Olomouc Italian disco! Ondřej Jurčík, aka DJ Kurzola, curator of the legendary Tutto è caldo! parties, brings his signature vibrant energy to close out the first day of the music program.

 

LAU returns after her unforgettable performance at AFO57, this year with her DJ set. Since her last visit, she has released her debut EP and has a solid spot in the Hungarian club scene.

 

Music curators and co-founders of the Dekadance collective share a set dropping some left-field electronic tunes with strong 90s vibes and close out Music is Science with a bang.

 

Coming home from Prague’s Ankali, Marie has been slaying since her Olomouc days and even hit up the legendary Berghain in Berlin. Get ready for her high-energy DJ set which closes out Friday’s program.

 

Broken beats for broken hearts. Tasya takes you on a journey across contemporary electronica. She is a key figure in Prague’s indie cultural scene, honing her talents at festivals like Lunchmeat and Mezipatra, where she accompanies her music with light design.

 

Brno’s rising star xinchào knows how to bring the trance dance vibes, but she is all about pushing boundaries with her genre-bending DJ sets.

 

DAYTIME VINYL SESSIONS

Kobe is an avid collector of vinyl records, a resident of the Infame Radio community and a DJ focusing on the nuances of the house genre. The selector from Poděbrady sets the vibe for Saturday afternoon chillin’.

 

Hailing from Ukraine but living in Olomouc for several years, Mazzine is a music enthusiast and vinyl collector. His DJ sets are often complemented by the atmosphere of local venues, and Saturday afternoon at AFO is no different.
